Russian Post will test the delivery of parcels by drones to drone ports. About it reported in company.

The company has entered into an agreement that will allow testing the technology with the Russian developer Rusdronoport.

The experiment will involve two types of drone ports. One option involves three cells for parcels, the other will have eight. It is clarified that the maximum weight of the parcel should not exceed 10 kg, climate control will be installed inside the drone port, and the structure itself will be protected from hacking.

According to Sergey Sergushev, CEO of Russian Post, the company will be the first in Russia to test this delivery method. “However, we are confident that drone ports will help reduce waiting times for customers and speed up last mile delivery,” he said.

According to the head of Rusdronoport, Nikolai Ryashin, drone ports are part of the future infrastructure for air logistics of cargo. “Dronoports, drones with a payload of up to 5 kg per 15 km can make it possible to “fit” into market rates for the delivery of the “last mile” in the coming years,” Ryashin said.

Droneport is a complex that acts as a base station for drones. It will have post office functions. At the top of the structure is a landing pad for a drone. In order to place the parcel inside, an automatic hatch is provided. After the shipment is delivered, the client will be able to pick up the package as from a regular post office, the company said.
