Russian President Putin vows to continue war in Ukraine, headlines

Russian President Vladimir Putin has hinted at continuing the war on Ukraine.

He said the US-led NATO military alliance was exacerbating the problem, noting that it had a false belief that it could defeat Moscow.

Mr. Putin addressed the country’s political leaders and military high-ranking officials yesterday as it is about to end one year since the start of the war.

He said that important historical events are taking place right now that can define the future of the country and the future of the country’s people.

On February 24 last year, the Russian president said he was forced to order a ‘special military operation’ against Ukraine.

“Russia has made every effort to resolve the issue in a peaceful way. Be patient.

“But even before the war, Ukraine was inclined to buy weapons from the West. It also planned to attack Crimea, which Russia annexed in 2014,” he said.

He lashed out at the Kiev government and the Western powers that dominate it for holding the Ukrainian people captive.

Mr Putin said Russia could not be defeated and that the West’s attempt to divide Russian society would not work.

He noted that most Russians supported the war on Ukraine. The Russian president promised to provide special funds to the families of the war dead.
