Russian Railways imposed restrictions on loading in ports in January due to congestion

OJSC Russian Railways in January introduced 17 restrictions on loading at a number of sea terminals and port oil depots due to congestion, the press service of the company said.

“In the first days of 2022, loading on the Russian Railways network to ports increased by 3.8%. But not all sea terminals were ready for such volumes: the average discharge is only 58% of their processing capacity, ”the message says. Among the main reasons for the drop in unloading, the company named problems with handling equipment, unavailability to work with frozen cargo and overflow of storage tanks due to the delayed fleet.

Thus, a particularly difficult situation has developed in the Far Eastern ports: the unloading of the Vaninotransugol terminal at Dyuanka station is 263 wagons per day, which is two times less than the standard. Port Posyet fulfills the plan only by 32%, accepting 111 wagons with coal, while about 15 more trains with coal are awaiting unloading.

The terminals in the North-West, as well as in the Black Sea, where a stormy wind interfered with their normal operation, do not meet the standard. “All this restrains the loading of export cargo and complicates the situation with the movement of trains on the port railways,” the company said.

In late December, the holding announced the imposition of restrictions on the loading of oil products at some Russian port terminals due to congestion in the ports. As reported, unfavorable weather conditions complicated the work of seaports in the North-West, South and Far East.
