Russian Rocket Hits Apartment Building in Lviv, Ukraine, Killing Four People

In a horrifying incident that has shocked the nation, a Russian rocket struck an apartment building in the western Ukrainian city of Lviv, leaving at least four people dead and 32 others injured, according to Ukraine’s Minister of Internal Affairs, Ihor Klymenko. The devastating attack took place in the early hours of the morning and resulted in the destruction of the third and fourth floors of the building.

Describing it as one of the largest attacks on the city’s civilian infrastructure, Lviv’s mayor, Andriy Sadovyi, posted a video showing the extent of the damage. The footage revealed broken windows, damaged cars, and debris scattered across the area. Mayor Sadovyi stated that more than 50 apartments were damaged as a result of the strike.

Rescue operations are currently underway, with emergency services managing to evacuate 64 people thus far. However, there are concerns that more individuals may still be trapped under the rubble. Mayor Sadovyi emphasized the need to continue search efforts and expressed hope for the safe recovery of any remaining residents.

President Volodymyr Zelensky has condemned the attack and promised a “tangible” response to what he referred to as an assault by “Russian terrorists.” Russia’s military has not yet commented on the incident.

The devastating rocket strike is the latest in a series of deadly missile and drone attacks carried out by Russia on Ukrainian cities. These attacks have targeted civilian infrastructure, leading to widespread blackouts in several areas. Just last week, 13 people, including children, were killed when a restaurant and shopping center were hit in the eastern city of Kramatorsk, near Russian-occupied parts of Ukraine.

Despite being far from the main front lines in eastern and southern Ukraine, Lviv has also experienced the brutal consequences of Russian aggression. The region’s head, Maksym Kozytskyi, revealed that a “critical infrastructure facility” was struck during the attack, though he did not provide further details. He emphasized Russia’s main goal as the destruction of the Ukrainian people but expressed confidence in Ukraine’s ability to prevail.

As the nation mourns the loss of innocent lives and assesses the damage caused, Ukrainian authorities are left grappling with the devastating impact of Russia’s ongoing aggression. The international community is closely watching developments, urging for a peaceful resolution to the escalating conflict.
