A joint team of scientists from the Space Research Institute (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Samara University has proposed that after the completion of the scientific program of the Russian-German Observatory Spektr-RG in 2029, the observatory will be sent to the potentially dangerous asteroid to study it in detail.

According to the team of scientists, the Spektr-RG space observatory, after completing its mission in 2029, will have enough fuel to fly near the asteroid, and then return to its orbit.
And the Russian Federal Center for Science and High Technology reported last year that on April 13, 2029, the asteroid “Apovis” will fly at a short distance from Earth of only 38.4 thousand km, which is equivalent to the height of the geostationary satellite orbit (approx. 36 thousand km).

And in the event of a collision with the ground, the energy released, according to forecasts, will be more than 1,700 megatons, and the strength of the earthquake, which occurs within a radius of 10 kilometers, can reach 6.5 points.

At the same time, the Russian space agency “Roskosmos” indicated that the possibility of the asteroid colliding with Earth is “very, very small”, but its dangerous approach to Earth will really happen on April 5, 2095.
