Moscow: World number 12 tennis player Daria Kasatkina has revealed that he is gay. Daria, who is also Russia’s number one female tennis player, made the revelation in an interview with Yevlager Vitya Kravchachenko on Tuesday.
Daria said that she and the Russian women’s Olympic figure skater Natalia Sabyako have been friends for a long time. Later, Kasatkina uploaded a photo with Natalia on Instagram. After the news, many celebrities from the tennis world came out in support of Kasatkin.
25-year-old Kasatkina said that living in peace and happiness is the most important thing and ignores everything else. Kasatkina also criticized Russia’s position on the issue of homosexuality. In Russia, steps have been taken to introduce a law to ban information that promotes homosexuality. It is also pointed out that Daria Kasatkina made her relationship public in this context.
‘There are much bigger things to ban. So, this does not seem surprising. As they say, there is no point in living in hiding without anyone knowing’ – said Kasatkina. Homosexuality has been decriminalized in Russia since 1993. However, the idea of homosexuality has been banned in the country since 2013.
