Russians caught in the noose of international sanctions

STORY – The population is starting to feel the economic restrictions imposed after the invasion of Ukraine, but these do not seem able to move the political lines.

This is just a detail, but all the same: it is becoming more and more difficult to get white paper in Russia, if not paying for it five times more than a month ago. In question, the international sanctions decided after the invasion of Ukraine and the cessation of supplies of bleaching chemicals imported from Finland… Hence the comeback of yellowish paper – pompously renamed “ecological” -, omnipresent in the time of the USSR.

Little by little, day after day, Russians are faced with increasing restrictions, which are shaking up daily life and reviving the specter of shortages that many still remember. It is Svetlana, a housewife from Moscow who discovers one fine morning in her supermarket that sugar, buckwheat and salt are out of stock. And when there are, no more than one package per customer! Without warning, capsules for dishwashers, sanitary napkins and certain animal products have also disappeared…
