At the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing, Russian athletes will perform under the flag of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), and instead of the anthem, a fragment of the First Concerto for Piano and Orchestra by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky will be used, said ROC President Stanislav Pozdnyakov. He added that the uniform of the Russians is in the final stage of approval.
“The form for Beijing is already at the stage of final approval. All other things will remain the same: we will perform under the flag of the ROC and with the ingenious creation of Tchaikovsky instead of the anthem. By the way, many colleagues who attended the protocol ceremonies thanked us for choosing this particular composition, “Mr. Pozdnyakov told RIA Novosti.
Recall that the CAS temporarily banned Russia from using national symbols due to charges of violating anti-doping rules. At the Tokyo Olympics, Tchaikovsky’s music served as musical accompaniment to events with the participation of Russian athletes. Instead of the anthem, a fragment of his concerto for piano and orchestra No. 1 was performed.
