Residents of Russia will be able to see a partial solar eclipse, and in Yakutia – the first annular eclipse in 50 years, said Oleg Ugolnikov, astronomer, senior researcher at the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

He said that the next eclipse will occur on June 10, a partial eclipse will be visible from almost the entire territory of Russia, except for the Far East.

“In Moscow, in the middle of an eclipse, the Moon will block 27 percent of the diameter of the Sun, which will look like a bitten off apple,” the astronomer noted.

Ugolnikov added that the maximum eclipse in Moscow will occur at 14.27 Moscow time. According to him, if you do not look at the star at the right moment, you may not notice anything. The residents of the northeast of Yakutia will be more fortunate, who will be able to observe a 94% eclipse of the Sun by the Moon.

“This is the first annular eclipse in 50 years that falls on the territory of our country. They were full, but with the ring-shaped ones somehow we were unlucky, ”the astronomer said.

Ugolnikov explained that there will be an annular eclipse when the Moon does not completely cover the disk of the star, even when the centers of the Moon and the Sun coincide in the sky.
