Russia on Friday, March 11, requested a meeting of the United Nations Security Council (SC) in connection with the military-biological activities of the United States in Ukraine. This was announced on Thursday, March 10, by Dmitry Polyansky, First Deputy Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN.

“The Russian mission requested a meeting at the UN Security Council on March 11 to discuss US military biological activities on the territory of Ukraine,” the diplomat said on Twitter.

Earlier in the day, Igor Kirillov, head of the Radiation, Chemical and Biological Defense Forces of the Russian Armed Forces, said that the materials found confirmed the Pentagon’s leading role in financing and conducting military biological research in Ukraine. He clarified that the details of the UP-4 project, which was implemented with the participation of laboratories in Kyiv, Kharkov and Odessa, and was designed for the period up to 2020, had become known. During the development of the project, the possibility of spreading especially dangerous infections through migratory birds, including highly pathogenic H5N1 influenza, whose lethality for humans reaches 50%, as well as Newcastle disease, was studied.

The research was carried out in the immediate vicinity of the borders of Russia – in the regions of the Black Sea coast and in the Caucasus. At the same time, not only Ukrainian, but also Georgian specialists are involved in the project in cooperation with the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and the US Geological Survey.

On March 9, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called outrageous the facts of US participation in experiments in biolaboratories in Ukraine. US biological laboratories are located in other countries, he assured.

On March 8, US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland acknowledged that there are biological laboratories in Ukraine where research is being carried out. According to her, Washington is trying to prevent the transfer of facilities under the control of the Russian army.

The next day, the Pentagon reported that the information about the use of biolaboratories by the United States on the territory of Ukraine for the development of biological weapons is not true, and called this statement ridiculous. White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki also assured that the United States is not developing chemical and biological weapons and does not have them in any country in the world.

Russia launched an operation to protect the civilian population of Donbass on February 24 against the backdrop of escalation in the region due to shelling by the Ukrainian military. As Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov clarified at the time, the goals of the special operation are also the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine. According to him, both of these aspects pose a threat to the Russian state and people.

The Russian side also emphasized that it does not hatch plans for the occupation of Ukraine, and precision strikes are carried out only on the military infrastructure of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
