Washington: US President Biden has said that Russia has made a huge mistake by withdrawing from the nuclear agreement.
Russian President Putin’s announcement that he is withdrawing from the nuclear arms treaty with the United States has caused a stir. The Nuclear Weapons (New Start) Treaty was signed in 2010 in the Czech Republic by then US President Obama and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev to help control nuclear weapons stockpile. It was hoped that this would bring nuclear weapons under control worldwide.
At this stage, the contract expired in February 2021. US President Joe Biden took steps to renew it. However, Putin rejected US talks over the conflict in Ukraine. It is against this backdrop that Putin announced his withdrawal from the nuclear arms treaty with the United States.
Speaking about this in Moscow, he said, “The United States and European countries are refusing to cooperate in the Ukraine issue. In this environment, we will not give up this fight. Russia pulls out of Nuclear Weapons Treaty (New Start Treaty) with US to curb nuclear stockpile. European countries are planning to take away our nuclear power. If the United States conducts a nuclear test, we will also conduct a nuclear test,” he said.
In this situation, US President Joe Biden commented on Putin’s decision. He said, “Russia has made a huge mistake by withdrawing from the Nuclear Weapons Treaty. This is not a responsible thing to do. However, I think Putin will not use nuclear weapons.
