Shock in the world of volleyball and in general in world sports, with the former captain of Panathinaikos in women’s volleyball, Ruxi Dumitrescu, taking her last breath from a heart attack at the age of 46, as announced by the Romanian Volleyball Federation.

Dumitrescu was born in Galati, Romania on April 20, 1977 and at the age of 20 she began her career in Greece wearing the shirt of Vrilissia (1997-2003), to be transferred in the summer of 2003 to Panathinaikos where she had a legendary career that made one of the greatest volleyball players who have played in our country.

With the green she competed from 2003 until 2010 and during this time she won 6 championships, 5 Cups and was a finalist in 2009 in the final of the CEV Challenge Cup, with the Romanian athlete becoming the captain of the trefoil and seeing the jersey with her name and No. 9 on the back to be retired, as a sign of respect for Panathinaikos for her huge contribution to the club.

Apart from her rich trophy case at the collective level, a big moment for Ruxi Dumitrescu was her presence at the Olympic Games in Athens in 2004, with the Romanian having taken Greek citizenship and wearing the jersey with the national emblem from 2004 until in 2009.

It is noted that Roxana Dumitrescu was married to Alexandros Nicolaidis and had a son with him, Filippo.
