Jaishankar and Timothewos Hessebon Meet in Addis Ababa

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held wide-ranging discussions with Ethiopia’s Foreign Minister Gedion Timothewos Hessebon in Addis Ababa, focusing on bilateral ties spanning trade, investment, infrastructure, maritime security, technology, and culture according to ANI News. The talks also addressed global developments, multilateral cooperation, and the partnership between India and the African Union.

Following his ministerial meeting, Jaishankar met with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali as reported by DD India. Prime Minister Ali noted that their discussion reaffirmed longstanding ties, building upon his recent visit to New Delhi and engagements with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During his visit to the AI Institute, Jaishankar remarked that India and Ethiopia share the vision of “AI for All,” emphasizing its promise for advancing development and prosperity.

The External Affairs Minister also spent time at the Ethiopia Science Museum, describing it as a symbol of the nation’s push toward a technology-driven, knowledge-based economy and noting that science and innovation cooperation will play a greater role in the strategic partnership. In addition, the Indian Foreign Minister expressed his appreciation for Ethiopia’s impactful participation in the recent BRICS Summit hosted by India. Prime Minister Ali likewise highlighted India’s support for Ethiopia’s accession to the BRICS group during their ongoing diplomatic exchanges.
