The Anti-Corruption Department today raided AIADMK Korada SB Velumani’s house in Coimbatore and his premises across Tamil Nadu.
The Anti-Corruption Department had filed the case based on information received that SB Velumani had amassed assets in excess of Rs 58 crore when he was the minister during the AIADMK regime.
The first information report filed in the case alleges that SB Velumani, his brother Anparasan, ten others including Anparasan’s wife Premalatha and three private companies, Maha Ganapathi Jewelers, Constro Mall Goods and Alam Gold and Diamond, were charged.
SB Velumani was the Minister of Municipal Administration, Rural Development and Special Programs Implementation from 2016 to 2021.
During this period he has amassed assets in excess of Rs.58,23,97,052 through companies registered in his name, in the name of his relatives and close associates. This is 3,920% more than the income shown by him, according to the first information report of the Anti-Corruption Department.
Also in the meantime SB Velumani, his family and relatives have made various overseas trips. In the first information report, the Anti-Corruption Department said that there is a possibility that these people may have bought property abroad as they have bought property in Tamil Nadu with the highest earnings during this five year period.
Already in August last year, the bribery unit had conducted a raid on SB Velumani’s house. When he was a minister, the Anti-Corruption Department had conducted inspections in more than 60 places alleging irregularities in the awarding of tenders by the corporation. This is the second time in a row that the Anti-Corruption Department has raided premises owned by SB Velumani.
Today the test was conducted at 59 locations owned by SP Velumani across Tamil Nadu, including 41 locations in Coimbatore district.
The raid started at 7 am today at SP Velumani’s house in Sukunapuram, Coimbatore district and continued till 8 pm. AIADMK workers gathered in front of SB Velumani’s house after the information about the raid was released.
The houses and offices of SB Velumani, AIADMK legislator KR Jayaraman, Vadavalli Chandrasekhar and former legislator Ettimalai Shanmugam were raided in Coimbatore today. In addition, the Anti-Corruption Department raided the homes of businessmen and dignitaries close to SB Velumani.
Anita, who was the ADSP of Coimbatore district during the AIADMK regime, The search was conducted at the homes and premises of four police officers, including P Shanmugam, police inspectors Loganathan and Chandrakanta.
Former ministers Thangamani, KP Anpalagan, Senkottaiyan, CV Shanmugam, KC Karuppannan, MSM Anandan and MR Vijayabaskar were also present at the meeting. They visited Velumani’s house.
The Anti-Corruption Department said that during the 13-hour search today, 11 kg of gold, 118 kg of silver, unaccounted cash of Rs 84 lakh and Rs 34 lakh were invested in cryptocurrency.
Anti-corruption officials said the case would continue after nine key documents and a cellphone were seized from SB Velumani’s home at the end of the raid.
SB Velumani, who later met reporters with former AIADMK ministers, said, “The DMK government is registering and prosecuting this case with political zeal. Not only against me but also against my relatives and those close to me. We will take legal action against them. We will prove our innocence before the law. ”
