Johannesburg: In the second ODI between India and South Africa (SA vs IND 2nd ODI), things were really like a lottery for Indian captain KL Rahul. Rahul, who escaped catches twice, miraculously escaped a once-guaranteed run-out. Rahul won the toss and elected to bat, but lost the toss and elected to field.
The dramatic escape came in the 15th over when Keshav Maharaj bowled in the Indian innings. Rishabh Pant, who hit the Maharaja’s ball to the midwicket, left the crease for a single. In response, Rahul ran to the middle of the pitch and the ball bounced back to the crease without running for a run. Not knowing what to do for a second, Rahul Rishabh ran to the batting crease where the ball was.
South African skipper Temba Bauma caught the ball this time and threw the ball to Keshav Maharaj at the non-striking end. But the Maharaja could not get the ball in his hands. The ball slipped from Maharaj’s hands and was caught by Andil Felucca, but he too could not catch the ball and throw it. When he tried to throw, he hit his hand and the ball went backwards.
Seeing this, Rahul returned to the crease from the batting crease to the non-striking end. After this, the fans also saw KL Rahul getting angry with Rishabh Pant. But without looking at the captain’s face, Rishabh bowed his head and escaped. Earlier in the day, the crease escaped a stumping off the crease on the first ball.
