Mumbai: Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar has praised 16-year-old Indian Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa for overthrowing world chess champion Magnus Carlsen. Pragnananda stunned the chess world in the eighth round of the Airthings Masters Online Chess Tournament.

‘What an amazing achievement. It’s magical to subdue the experienced and famous Magnus Carlsen at the age of 16 with black calves. All the best for a long chess career. Tendulkar tweeted, “Pragnananda is the pride of India.”

Carlson, who had won three games in a row, was subdued in 39 moves by Pragyananda, who played with the Black Cubs. Pragnananda is the third Indian to beat Carlson. Earlier, Vishwanandan Anand and Harikrishnan had defeated Carlson. Ramesh Babu Pragnananda, the Grand Master of Indian Chess was born on August 10, 2005. Pragnananda is the fifth youngest player to win the Grand Master title.
