Sacramento Man Arrested After Stabbing at Cool Patch Pumpkins

Two people were hospitalized and a Sacramento man was arrested following a Friday night stabbing inside the corn maze at Cool Patch Pumpkins in Dixon, California. Solano County authorities responded to the 40-acre agricultural attraction around 9:15 p.m., cleared the labyrinth for additional victims, and recovered a weapon at the scene.

The violence left two people injured inside the labyrinth.

Both individuals were transported to a hospital for medical treatment. Authorities took a 28-year-old man from Sacramento into custody in connection with the attack and recovered a weapon at the scene, though investigators have not publicly released the suspect’s name.

Search Operation and Official Assessment

Deputies faced immediate logistical hurdles trying to secure the sprawling maze after dark. Law enforcement personnel systematically combed the grounds to determine whether anyone else had been harmed.

Clearing the corn maze at night was quite the challenge, but we did it — and we did recover some evidence.

Investigators subsequently confirmed that they did not believe any additional victims remained inside the maze. A spokesperson for the sheriff’s office characterized the bloodshed as an isolated incident that stemmed from a disagreement that escalated far beyond what it should have, adding that the episode posed no further threat to public safety.

Visiting the farm for a fall outing, Natalie Murphy and Emily Gove traveled from San Francisco and stated they had not heard about the stabbing prior to their arrival. While Gove remarked that they felt completely safe during their visit, she and Murphy expressed hope that the victims were doing well and that comfort measures would be maintained for future guests.

Reopening and the Farm’s History

Operations resumed the following morning, with visitors returning to the farm on Saturday to navigate the attraction and buy pumpkins. Seth Cooley, whose family operates the agricultural site, addressed the community’s response to the violence.

There was an altercation between some people yesterday in the corn maze. Police were called. They responded really fast. We’re a family-oriented pumpkin patch. Always have been.

Cooley noted that security cameras are positioned across the property and liability notices are posted near the entrance, though he declined to elaborate on specific on-site security protocols because I don’t think it’s relevant to what happened. He emphasized that management intends to keep welcoming the public for the remainder of the autumn season, noting that they refuse to let one incident involving a single individual ruin the experience for thousands of visitors.

Established in 2001 by Matt Cooley when his daughters began selling pumpkins by the roadside, the destination expanded into a massive rural enterprise. Its centerpiece corn maze achieved widespread recognition, earning Guinness World Records titles in 2007 and 2014 when it spanned roughly 63 acres before later being scaled back to approximately 40 acres. This year, the labyrinth serves as a tribute commemorating the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States.

Unresolved Questions in the Ongoing Investigation

While the sheriff’s office confirmed the arrest and the recovery of evidence, officials have not disclosed the specific trigger for the initial dispute between the individuals involved. Public jail booking logs maintained by Solano County under Government Code 7923.610 outline local detention records, but specific charges and formal identification for the 28-year-old Sacramento suspect remained unreleased as the active investigation continued. Hospital officials and investigators have not disclosed the current medical conditions of the 19-year-old Dixon woman and the 20-year-old Vallejo man.
