Today, March 15, President Sadyr Japarov went to Ankara to participate in the extraordinary summit of the leaders of the member countries of the Organization of Turkic States (TSU). In the capital city of Turkey, it is planned to meet and talk separately with the country’s president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

This time, the TSU summit is devoted to the topic of “Disaster management and humanitarian aid”.

The official delegation includes Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeenbek Kulubayev, Head of Foreign Policy Department of the Presidential Administration Muratbek Azymbakiyev, Minister of Emergency Situations Boobek Azhikeev, Deputy Minister of Economy and Commerce Kanatbek Abdyrakhmanov.

In 1992, the first meeting of the leaders of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan was held in Ankara at the initiative of the then head of Turkey, Turgut Ozal, in order to strengthen the cooperation of the Turkic peoples. Since then, there have been changes in the composition of the organization, and in 2009, the current Organization of Turkic States was established. In addition to the five member countries, Hungary and Turkmenistan have been participating in the meetings of the organization as observers.

Turkey is currently dealing with the consequences of the severe earthquake that occurred at the beginning of February. About 50,000 people died in this natural disaster. To help the affected region, Kyrgyzstan collected funds, sent rescuers and doctors, and built shelters for the homeless.

In addition, the country is preparing for parliamentary and presidential elections to be held on May 14. Surveys show that this election process, in which a unified opposition candidate will participate, will be accompanied by tension. (RK)
