Transition to a green economy will require increased labor mobility and creating conditions for her professional retraining and adaptation.
As Day.Az reports with reference to Trend, this was stated by the Minister of Labor and Social Protection of Azerbaijan Sahil Babaev during the opening ceremony of the third day of the international conference within the framework of Climate Action Weeks in Baku.
The minister stressed that research shows that the transition to a green economy will have a significant impact on the labor market, opening up new jobs, but will also cause structural changes in traditional sectors such as oil and gas production.
“The speed and quality of this transformation will largely depend on the training of qualified specialists and the efficiency of workforce management. On the other hand, digitalization and the development of new technologies will lead to the emergence of new forms of employment, accelerated changes in the labor market, the emergence of new professions and specialties, as well as to the rapid obsolescence of existing skills. This will require increasing labor mobility and creating conditions for its professional retraining and adaptation,” he said.
According to him, in the context of the transition to a “green” economy, the protection of labor and social rights of citizens becomes an important element of the concept of human capital development.
“As in other countries of the world, this issue is of particular importance for Azerbaijan. According to international organizations, in recent years, many developed countries have observed significant changes in the structure of national wealth,” he noted.
The Minister mentioned that the social protection system must support the transition to a green economy and adapt to new conditions.
“Azerbaijan, despite regional and global challenges, continues to strive to improve the level of well-being of its population, defining this as its priority. Under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, a policy of building a strong social state is being pursued. Important elements of this policy are expanding the coverage and targeting of social programs, simplifying access to social security services and the introduction of innovative technologies in the provision of social services, which makes it possible to provide effective assistance to low-income families,” he added.
