The duo composed of the Rwandan Ernestine Umbyiyie and the Ghanaian Rahinatu Wintina, representing the FBX Ghana association, won second place in this first race over a distance of 26 km, which the African students covered in 3h53min, thus following the French pair Salomé Raffi and Elise Pollini who dominated the event (3h16min).
It took four hours for Admila Eneida Lopes (Cape Verde) and Fanny Saïda Andriamialisoa (Madagascar) of the Association for the Development of Fonte Lima (APDFL) to finish the race in third position, while fifth place went to the Malagasy Leticia Zara Hassanaly and Catucia Chirianie Bemahefa defending the ASF association, arriving half an hour later (4h34min).
As for their compatriots Sarah Tanteliniaina and Amrance Tanteliniaina from the Tsara Fo association for the aid of Madagascar, they finished seventh, after a journey of 4h49min.
Braving a distance of 26 km, the participants from Rwanda, Ghana, Madagascar and Cape Verde, completed a 14 km mountain bike route, making their way among the golden dunes of Dakhla, before continuing with the bootcamp on 2 km, then a 10 km run, crossing the up and down paths to the finish point, without failing to savor every moment of this exceptional adventure in such a splendid place in the heart of the desert, thanks to the team spirit that helps overcome any difficult circumstances.
Over four days, these AMCI participants, aged between 20 and 23, will take part in various sporting activities, including night trails, mountain biking, bootcamp, abseiling and canoeing.
The eight African students (four pairs) passed several tests in preparation for this sporting and exploratory challenge, in order to improve their physical endurance.
“The participants must seek and find their way by handling their maps and compasses on their mountain bikes, in search of 12 markers which serve as landmarks, over a distance of 14 kilometers” explained, in a declaration to the MAP, Gilles Gaubert, technical director of the Sahraouiya Raid, which continues until February 10 under the high patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
Furthermore, the race design manager pointed out that, for this year, the course has not been mapped out, forcing participants to find their way themselves, before continuing for bootcamp events and a running.
He also noted that a medical team is present throughout the raid to ensure medical monitoring of the participants.
In ten years, more than 1,000 participants from all over the world have taken part in the different editions of this sporting springboard and have been able to support more than 90 associations, to collect a total of donations amounting to more than 1,186,032 dirhams, according to the organizers. .
Each year, thanks to the commitment of the participating teams, numerous associations are supported at national and international level since the first edition.
