A thorn in the side of Éric Zemmour. While his party, Reconquête!, had been one of the spearheads of the protest against Yannick Morez, the resignation of the latter in the face of violence from the ultra-right embarrasses the former candidate for the presidential election. After several days without reaction, the essayist still condemned “unacceptable” violence.

The ex-controversy of Figaro and CNews reacted this Friday on Twitter, judging the violence against the mayor “inadmissible whatever the reasons”. “In a democracy, conflicts are settled by the exchange of arguments and opinions”, he added without forgetting to recall the substance of the case.

Reconquest! alongside the ultra-right

“The lack of consideration of the anger and despair of millions of our compatriots in the face of the migratory invasion is a time bomb that must be defused as soon as possible by providing a political solution”, explained the former candidate for the presidential one. The origin of the disputes against the various right-wing mayor of the commune of Loire-Atlantique came from a project to move the reception center for asylum seekers near an elementary school which had opened in the seaside resort in 2016.

In the heart of winter, reconquest! distributed leaflets crossed out with a “No to the settlement of migrants next to our schools, let’s protect our children”, against the background of an eight-year-old photo of refugees taken in Slovenia.

The gatherings, carried by a motley fachosphere – Catholic fundamentalists from Civitas, identitarians from Luminis and the Martel Division or even from La Cocarde were thus supported by activists from Reconquête! like the National Rally. After the burning of the mayor’s home, Éric Zemmour’s party had discreetly called for no longer to participate in the demonstrations.
