It’s a sensation in the fashion world. Anthony Vaccarello will present his new Saint Laurent men’s collection in Berlin this summer.

Berlin, please behave yourself, because in summer it will be glamorous: Saint Laurent is launching a new collection in the middle of the capital. The Paris show on February 28th was a highlight celebrated by the press.

Saint Laurent, one of the hottest fashion labels in the world at the moment, will present a new men’s collection on June 12th. That’s nice, but not unusual. Fashion Week takes place in Paris in June. The amazing thing, however, is that Saint Laurent will not be showing its show in Paris, but – drum roll – in Berlin. As the French fashion house confirmed to the Berliner Zeitung this morning, the location has already been decided, and the announcement will follow at a later date.

Is the choice of location for Saint Laurent perhaps too much of a gamble? Well, there is a risk that important guests will not travel to Berlin because of an individual appointment. But: Paris Fashion Week runs from June 20th to June 25th. The date does not collide with the Milan Fashion Week either, which takes place from June 16th to 20th. Other important shows should therefore not be an obstacle for the fashion public to travel to the German capital on June 12th. It’s a shame that Berlin Fashion Week doesn’t take place until July. Unfortunately, local designers cannot attract international visitors for their fashion shows.

With this decision, Saint Laurent creative director Anthony Vaccarello is taking a step that many great designers have probably already played out in their heads. But only in your head, because the fashion world does not love Berlin as a venue for fashion shows, but above all as the city of free partying. A Bottega Veneta presentation in autumn 2021 was not exactly encouraging in this regard. The then Bottega creative director Daniel Lee had to take a lot of scolding for the top-secret event in Berghain followed by a hotel party in Soho House, because there was officially none in Berlin at the time because of Corona parties took place.

Whatever Vaccarello plans for his show, he should already be celebrated by all Berliners for his bravery. Maybe other big luxury brands will follow suit soon – who knows, who knows.
