Today, December 11, the Church remembers María Maravillas Pidal y Chico de Guzmán, better known as Saint Maravillas de Jesús.
She was born in Madrid, Spain, on November 4, 1891. Upon entering the Order of the Discalced Carmelites, she took the name “Mary of the Wonders of Jesus.” In addition to being recognized for having promoted the spiritual renewal of her Order, she is considered one of the most important mystics of the 20th century.
His parents belonged to the Spanish nobility. His father was Don Luis Pidal y Mon, second Marquis of Pidal, and his mother was Dona Cristina Chico de Guzmán y Muñoz, granddaughter and niece of the counts of Retamoso. Luis Pidal was Minister of Development of Spain and later ambassador to the Holy See.
