Providentially, before the crime was completed, the widespread discontent of the people forced the queen to abandon the throne. Thus Wenceslas found a clear path to be proclaimed king, with the addition of the popular will.

In the following months, Wenceslas, despite his youth, prudently faced the division among his subjects, ruling with a high sense of justice, firmly but with clear gestures of mercy. While he occupied the throne, a series of reforms took place to strengthen the peace and unity of the kingdom, around moral principles born of the Gospel.

The holy king, in that bustle, would give the Catholic Church a leading place in the reforms.
