Every September 29, the Church celebrates the feast of the Holy Angels Michael, Raphael and Gabriel. Their names always remain engraved on the souls of Christians because of their greatness and their obedience to God’s will.

We know Michael, Raphael and Gabriel well because they are mentioned in the Holy Scriptures, each of them carrying out some vital mission, under divine leadership, within the history of salvation.

Names of Angels

Saint Michael the Archangel is the one who commands the armies of heaven. The name “Michael” in Hebrew means “Who is like God!” (sometimes the exclamation is seen as a question); an expression that shows God’s omnipotence, as well as his infinite love and justice. His name is the war cry that emerges triumphantly in the battle against the Adversary, Satan, and his court of fallen angels.

“Rafael”, for his part, means “God heals” or “God creates health”. Saint Raphael is the archangel friend of walkers and pilgrims; He is also a physician to those who are sick.
