Sainte-Marie: Ravoraha airport meets international standards

Sainte-Marie International Airport is on the rise. Yesterday, as part of the trip by the President of the Republic, Andry Rajoelina to this island, the airport received the aerodrome certificate and officially announced the use of its runway lighting. Having met international standards in terms of infrastructure and security, this airport is now authorized to accommodate more night flights. This is an important initiative to improve the sources of income of the local population, living mainly from tourism.

The certificate was issued jointly by the Civil Aviation of Madagascar (ACM) and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). According to the explanations of the Director General of ADEMA, Jean Germain Andrianiaina, the certification will be published internationally in order to reassure foreign airlines to invite them to come and serve Sainte Marie.

Ravoraha airport is the 6th airport in Madagascar to have received aerodrome certification after Antananarivo, Taolagnaro, Majunga, Toamasina and Nosy Be.

The luminous beaconing of the Ravoraha airport runway, newly installed will secure night landings and take-offs. They will also be needed to cope with the particularly difficult weather conditions on Boraha Island.

During his speech, President Andry Rajoelina stressed that the modernization of this airport is one of the Veliranos he made to the local population during the 2018 election campaign. He also confirmed in passing that the government has multiplied efforts to revive the tourism sector after the Covid-19 pandemic. According to him, Sainte Marie will no longer be forgotten in relation to development actions.

The Head of State immediately announced the various projects that will be started in this locality. This is the case, among others, of the vocational training center reserved for the tourism sector, the work of which has just been finalized, or the solar park which will be set up before the end of this year 2023 to facilitate access to electricity.

The Madagascar Tourism Confederation particularly congratulated Adema for the commitment to modernizing the airport. This initiative will further promote the tourism sector in the country, recognizes the corporatism of tourists.
