Average Salary Growth Outpaces Previous Year in Bulgaria

According to the National Statistical Institute (NSI), the average salary in Bulgaria experienced a robust increase in the second quarter of 2024, both on an annual and monthly basis.
In the second quarter, the average monthly salary in Bulgaria stood at BGN 2,296, representing a significant year-on-year increase of 17.3 percent. Notably, this growth was particularly pronounced in various economic activities, including state administration, other industries, and the hospitality and education sectors.
Compared to the first quarter of 2024, the average salary increased by 4.5 percent, with notable increases observed in state administration, education, and the hospitality and restaurant industry.
The average gross monthly salary for the months of April, May, and June 2024 were BGN 2,303, 2,310, and 2,276, respectively.
In the second quarter of 2023, the average monthly salary was BGN 1,957, with an annual increase of 13.1 percent. The sectors witnessing the largest growth were production and distribution of energy, construction, and transport, storage, and mail.
The second quarter of 2024 saw a 4 percent growth in average salaries compared to the previous quarter. Notable increases were recorded in construction, hospitality and restaurants, and energy production.
The number of employed persons in June 2024 reached 2.35 million, an increase of 1.2 percent compared to the previous month.
