After the waves of Covid and the growing concerns about the environment or purchasing power… here are the great expectations of young graduates in relation to their future employer and manager.

The search for meaning…

Since the health crisis and the promotion of professions or useful companies against the Covid or the defense of the environment, more than half of young people consider themselves to be more in search of meaning and commitment within the framework of their studies. or their professional life (56%). 1/3 consider that the preservation of the environment is a priority subject in the commitment of companies, a percentage which increases compared to 2021. 13% would like to engage more in depth within a company by taking shares.

…but above all professional fulfillment

They are 40% to declare that one of the main roles of a company in 2022 is to give its employees the means to flourish professionally (compared to 34% in 2021) and 38% to be useful for society. Two-thirds of young working people want to be able to free up time to have a commitment, while being paid (67%), this is especially the case among 21-24 year olds (71%).

Regarding management, 31% of young people questioned expect their manager to create a fulfilling work environment and to recognize the work accomplished (30%). For 37% of young people surveyed, the idea of ​​being bored at work and not being interested in their work generates anxiety. While 29% of young people note a lack of confidence and autonomy on the part of their manager, more than one in three young people deplore the lack of consideration of the voice of employees in the company (34%).

Salary remains an essential criterion

For 51% of young people surveyed, the primary role of a company is to create jobs and hire, down slightly from 2021 (57%)… before being useful for society or to anticipate the social and environmental transformations of society. For 17% of them, the company must also provide access to financial autonomy. As in 2021, young people expect from their work above all a good salary (43%), and to have an interesting activity (32%). Moreover, for nearly half of young people (46%), the idea of ​​not earning enough money is a source of concern, and money is a reason for a successful life for 21% of among them (25% among men).

Regarding working conditions and telework, a major element of office life in recent years: 44% wish to benefit from it (and 63% of young people with a diploma equal to or greater than bac +3) and only 13% of young people would like to have for example the possibility of working in a flex office (sharing of unassigned offices).

The ideal employer is a local company!

The local business remains the ideal business model for a relative majority of young people, ahead of the social and solidarity economy business and the start-up. One element seems to be present throughout this new wave of survey: a demand for rootedness, serenity and stability among young people in their professional lives and in their lives as a whole. This demand for more roots is illustrated, for example, when nearly 40% of them (37%) dream of joining a local business (which should be understood here as a business linked to its territory, the reverse of an “above ground” company), far ahead of start-ups (23%) and CAC 40 companies (14%).

The health crisis leads to a need for more stability of stability at home: thus, 30% of young people imagine themselves staying within the same company as much as possible (2 points more than in 2021), compared to 20% who rather imagine changing companies several times.
