Argentine state oil company YPF could raise between US$15 million and US$19 million from the sale of two planes it owns, which were part of the official government fleet previously used by Peronist leaders who were defeated in last November’s presidential election. . The estimate was made by the website Infobae, after consultation with sources in the aeronautical sector. The planes are a Learjet 60 and an Embraer Praetor 550.

The sale of the planes has been considered a symbol of the austerity that Javier Milei’s administration intends to implement in the country. In fact, in recent years, former vice president Cristina Kirchner was the most frequent passenger on the aircraft.

According to the newspaper The nation, Cristina used both aircraft 59 times in recent years on trips to Santa Cruz. For these flights, the State paid the oil company “operational expenses”. In the middle of last year, this debt was more than 110 million pesos.

“We made the decision to complete the sale of two aircraft from the company YPF while exercising our position on the board of directors. The two planes were used, almost exclusively, for politics”, announced presidential spokesman Manuel Adorni on Friday (15). In turn, the company released a statement justifying the sale “for reasons of efficiency and savings”.

New board

YPF also intends to turn its management around before a possible privatization. On Thursday, he took over the new management of the company, which comes from the private sector.

The Board of Directors appointed Horacio Marín as its president and CEO, as expected, after Milei decided to consolidate the functions. Marín is a chemical engineer with a career spanning more than three decades in the oil sector, having recently led Tecpetrol, the oil company of the Techint Group. Federico Barroetaveña, another Techint veteran, took over as CFO.

Continues after advertising

Javier Milei has already expressed his intention to privatize several public companies, including YPF, on several occasions. “Everything that can be in the hands of the private sector will be in the hands of the private sector”, stated the libertarian, considering that there was a need to rebuild the company before any privatization process.
