Salem-Bengaluru electrification work completed, electric train service started

As the railway electrification work between Salem and Bengaluru has been completed, an express train equipped with electric locomotive has been operated from Ernakulam to Bengaluru since yesterday.
The railway line from Bengaluru to Salem, Karnataka was not electrified and was powered by diesel engines.
Passenger and freight trains were running. Also, trains from other states and other parts of Tamil Nadu, via Salem to Bengaluru, were to be operated with electric locomotives up to Salem and then converted to diesel locomotives to reach Bengaluru.
As a result, the construction of the power line was underway. In the first phase, the electrification work was completed from Bengaluru to Tamil Nadu border Hosur railway station and the electric train service started from December 2020. After that, since the electrification work was completed from Hosur to Dharmapuri, now electric trains are plying between Dharmapuri and Bengaluru.
As a result, the Dharmapuri – Omalur line was completed three months ago. As there was already an electrified railway between Salem and Omalur, the work of the Salem-Bengaluru electrified railway has been completed. In this case, as the electric railway work between Bengaluru and Salem has been completed, a full-length electric train was operated yesterday from Ernakulam, Kerala, to KSR, Bengaluru for the first time.
