Six people have been arrested in Salem, including the mother who killed her transgender son.
Umadevi (45) hails from Salem Bailiff Zakir Ammapalaiyam. She is separated from her husband and lives with her son Naveenkumar. 19-year-old Naveen Kumar has recently turned transgender and seems to have changed his name to Akshita. It is said that from time to time the problem came from home because he did not like his son becoming transgender.
Naveenkumar’s mother Umadevi, who recovered from injuries last week in a bush near the house, was immediately admitted to Salem Government Hospital for treatment. Akshitah alias Naveen Kumar died two days ago without any treatment.
Suramangalam police have registered a case and are investigating the death of the suspect. Suspicion fell on Thai Umadevi during the police investigation. Following this, the police intensified their investigation into Umadevi.
It is said that Naveenkumar tried to convert his son into a man by injecting him with hormones because he did not like his transgender nature.
But after being disturbed with suffocation, the investigation revealed that son Naveen Kumar was rescued and admitted by his mother to the government hospital, who later pretended not to be involved in the incident.
Following this, the police arrested Thai Umadevi and arrested six persons, including Venkatesh, Kamaraj, Karthikeyan, Santosh and Sivakumar, who had attacked Naveen Kumar, and charged them with murder and imprisoned them. The incident where a mother, who could not bear the shame of her son becoming a transgender, beat her son to death with known persons has caused a stir in Salem.
