Two Salem Central Jail wardens have been sacked for helping a popular rowdy to avoid being caught by private police.

Rowdy Vasant, a popular rowdy from Kanchipuram district, was convicted in a criminal case and lodged in the Salem Central Jail. As Rowdy Vasant was about to be released on bail, the personal police were waiting in front of the Salem Central Jail to arrest Vasant in another case.

However, the personal police have questioned the Salem Central Jail administration as Vasant did not come out after the stipulated time. It was then revealed that Rowdy Vasant had been released from jail at 11:30 p.m.

Following this, the private police complained that Rowdy Vasant had escaped without being caught by the private police as there was only one main entrance to get out of the Salem Central Jail.

An investigation by the Salem Metropolitan Police into the complaint revealed that Ramesh and Bhupathi, who work as wardens at the Salem Central Jail, opened the shutters of the jail canteen and sent Rowdy out. Following this, Salem Central Jail Superintendent Krishnakumar suspended both Ramesh and Bhupathi.
