Lucknow: Former MP Salim Iqbal Sherwani, who was angry over not giving ticket to any Muslim during Rajya Sabha elections, has withdrawn his resignation from the post of SP national general secretary. After meeting SP chief Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday, all the grievances have been resolved. Akhilesh has asked him to continue in the post and strengthen the party. Rajya Sabha elections were held for 10 seats in UP just before the Lok Sabha elections. In February, none of the three candidates announced by SP was a Muslim. Sherwani himself was also among the contenders. Citing neglect of minorities in the ticket, Sherwani had sent his resignation to Akhilesh. Sherwani was also shocked by the announcement of Dharmendra Yadav’s candidature from Badaun. However, Akhilesh did not react to the letter then. In view of the internal opposition, the SP chief made Dharmendra Yadav a candidate from Azamgarh and gave the Badaun ticket to Shivpal Yadav. Later, Shivpal fielded his son Aditya, but Shivpal’s activism definitely softened Sherwani’s tone.

Restoration happened after the meeting

Former MP Salim Iqbal Sherwani told NBT that he met Akhilesh on Saturday. I told him that I want to work with full authority for the party. My team had worked very hard in the Lok Sabha elections as well. Now we have to get together for Mission 2027. On this, the SP chief said that you work, he will issue a letter rejecting the resignation. On Saturday itself, Akhilesh issued a letter, in which it is written that the party needs a successful politician like you. You should stay in SP and keep cooperating as before. Please withdraw your resignation.
