The guide is a reflection of the ongoing efforts of the Catalan industry to encourage communication that respects diversity and promotes inclusion. The main new features of the guide are:

  • Intersection: The new directive highlights the importance of recognizing the various dimensions of an individual’s identity, such as age, sexual identity, skin color and social class, among others. This helps to avoid stereotypes and approach mental health with a perspective that takes into account the complexity of individual experiences.
  • Non-binary language: The guide offers guidelines for using non-binary indirect language, avoiding gender stereotypes and using neutral terms when possible. This includes using gender neutral words whenever possible.
  • Updated look and content: A specific section on the use of images has been included to avoid stereotypes and promote a diverse and positive representation of mental health. In addition, the guide presents a new corporate image that reinforces the key messages of the Salut Mental Catalunya communication.

The document is addressed to all people connected to mental health institutions, with the aim of ensuring that the language used is respectful and inclusive. The 2024 Body Guide highlights the importance of talking about mental health appropriately, avoid rules that may perpetuate stigma or diminish the diversity of experiences.
