On the morning of this Monday (4), the city of Salvador was shaken by a series of shootings in the center and a tense hostage situation in the middle of a police chase.
The Alto das Pombas and Calabar neighborhoods, located in the heart of the city and close to wealthy areas such as Barra, Ondina and Graça, became the epicenter of this conflict. These areas are the subject of dispute between the criminal factions Comando Vermelho and Bonde do Maluco, who clashed throughout the early hours of the morning.
One of the shootings occurred near the Campo Santo Cemetery, one of the largest in the city, located at one of the entrances to Alto das Pombas. During the confrontation with the police near Campo Santo, several criminals entered two homes and took seven people hostage.
The Batalhão de Operações Policiais Especiais intervened and began negotiations with the kidnappers, getting three men to surrender and be arrested.
The Secretary of Public Security of the state, Marcelo Werner, affirmed that the security forces will not retreat in their confrontation against criminal groups.
