Salzburg needs an overall concept | SN.at

The SN archive of January 18, 2023 reads: Barbara Unterkofler, who is responsible for traffic in the city, wants to restructure public transport: “The route network, which has so far been designed in a star shape, in which almost all routes run via the train station and the old town become, [sei] to dissolve and to create a so-called ‘demand-oriented network structure’ instead. So that lines are also run as ring or tangential lines.” The fact is that many commuters who arrive at the station by train or bus then want to take the trolleybus or S-Bahn to work or school in the Salzburg districts. That’s why they drive usefully many trolleybuses “star-shaped” away from the station.

So now the S-Link is supposed to take on the task of relieving traffic. How come? If it (for the time being) only goes to Mirabellplatz, the question remains whether it has to be driven out from Mirabellplatz in a “star shape” – after all, you also want to go to Aigen, Liefering, Itzling or Parsch. Do you then have to change again at Mirabellplatz and therefore create enough space for the buses departing from there so that a “needs-oriented network structure” is offered? Will shops then have to give way and trees will have to be felled there too?

So the S-Link does not really contribute to reducing traffic in the city, as Klaus Klingler aptly pointed out in the letter to the editor of August 8, 2023. The population finally has an overall concept for traffic in Salzburg. Or is there already one that is just being kept secret?
