To everyone’s surprise, Sam Altman, one of the world’s leading tech figures, was dismissed from his position as boss of OpenAI this Friday. The entrepreneur is one of the founders of this start-up which is at the origin of the generative artificial intelligence platform ChatGPT a year ago. This news surprised even OpenAI employees, who discovered it when the press release was published, according to American media. The tech world’s immediate reaction was a mix of surprise, dismay and speculation.
“Sam Altman is one of the best founders of his generation and has made an immense contribution to our industry,” Brian Chesky, the co-founder and boss of Airbnb, wrote on X (ex-Twitter), before adding that he and Greg Brockman will have “his full support”. “I am saddened by what happened.
