On Sunday, January 5, photographers and broadcast cameramen camped at the foot of Namsan Mountain, about 1 km from the Presidential Residence. Since perfect security was impossible, we were able to capture part of the entrance to the official residence through tree branches. If the impeachment had taken place in the summer, filming would have been much more difficult due to the dense foliage.
Unlike the first and second days, when the standoff was the subject of news photos, the main subject of the third day was the newly installed barbed wire. The coiled barbed wire along the wall was not well-displayed through a telephoto lens, but the 6-7 meter high barbed wire fence installed across the road near the side gate was clearly visible thanks to the white snow accumulated on the ground.
At first glance, the photos published in the Dong-A Ilbo and Chosun Ilbo on January 5, 1925 are the same.
But if you look closely, it’s a different picture. The characters are the same, but the camera position is slightly different. The Dong-A Ilbo was filmed from the front, and the Chosun Ilbo was filmed slightly from the side. There is no right answer. This is because the photos were taken by photographers from each newspaper.

Are photojournalists only competitive jobs? That’s not true. Photojournalists meet face to face at the same site for 20 to 30 years, and sometimes even collaborate. There are many cases where we are asked to join together in places where we cannot go alone. Someone abroad has described this relationship as ‘cooperative competition.’
Today, we talked about the cooperation and competition of photojournalists through two similar but subtly different photos published in newspapers 100 years ago. What differences did you notice in the photos? Please leave good comments. thank you
