Matthias Sammer calls on the Bundesliga clubs to focus fully on top talent in international competition.

“In Germany, the main focus must be on promoting young talent. That’s where the formula will be found to bundle quality in the top professional area,” wrote the Borussia Dortmund consultant in a “kicker” article.

According to Sammer, the Bundesliga must find its own way: “Economically, we can’t keep up with England, nor with the big Spanish clubs Real Madrid and Barcelona. Paris also lures with enormous fees, and some clubs from Italy are still involved.”

The former DFB sports manager cited Bayern’s Jamal Musiala or Jude Bellingham and previously Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho alongside Florian Wirtz and before that Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz as good examples. “The Bundesliga has built a reputation as an appealing place to transition from youth to adulthood beautifully. Boys in Italy, England, France – from anywhere across the borders – need to be confident that in Germany can take the next step in their career,” continued the 1996 European champion. (dpa)
