Samsung CEO Jong-Hee Han devoted a few minutes to his speech during the corporation’s annual shareholders’ meeting to officially apologize for the much-criticized app slowdown, and even caused GeekBench to remove all results. The tests of the Galaxy S devices from the last four years due to fear of unreliability.

“We did not properly assess the will of the users,” Jung Hi-han said, making an apology during his speech. “We will now listen to our customers closely, in order to prevent such a situation from happening again.”

The issue, it will be recalled, revolves around a component called the Game Optimizing Service or GOS for short, whose apparent role is to ensure optimal performance of Samsung devices. In practice, Samsung has deliberately slowed down the performance of more than 10,000 different apps to conserve battery life, but has made sure that performance testing apps, such as Geekbench or 3DMark, do not slow down.

This creates a situation where these programs display performance data that does not reflect the actual performance of the device in daily use. Since this matter was discovered, Samsung has taken care to distribute an update that immediately eliminates all performance restrictions on the new Galaxy S22 series devices, along with more transparent and detailed settings for the user to choose whether to allow GOS to optimize certain application performance to conserve battery life.
