Samsung extends the self-repair program to the Galaxy S22 series models

by time news

Last August, Samsung, in collaboration with the website iFixit, launched the official self-repair program for its devices. However, it initially included only relatively old models in the Galaxy S20 and S21 series. But the list is expanding, and now the Galaxy S22 series is also on the list, less than two weeks until the launch of the Galaxy S23.

Like the previous models already included in the program, the Galaxy S22 is also not a pre-designed device that can be easily fixed. For example, the process of replacing the screen on the S22 model described in detail on the website consists of less than 60 different steps that must be followed precisely, one after the other. In addition, since the battery is held in place with glue and it is very difficult to disassemble it without damaging it, Samsung assumes in advance that the screen replacement process will also entail a battery replacement and sells the two parts in one package.

On the other hand, the cost of spare parts at iFixit is relatively cheap: the aforementioned package that includes a screen and a replaceable battery is priced at $166.99, and also includes all the tools required for disassembling the device. A back glass cover is priced at $66.99, while a kit to replace the USB-C connection on the device is also priced at $66.99.

Beyond the Galaxy S22 phones, Samsung expanded the feature to include two mobile phones in the Galaxy Book series: the Galaxy Book Pro 15 model, and the Pro 360. The cost of replacing the screen on the Galaxy Book Pro 15, for example, is $249.99, and the keyboard replacement kit will cost 114.99 dollars. In both models, the cost of self-replacement of the battery was set at $79.99.
