Samsung announced with the launch of its Galaxy S24 its artificial intelligence called Galaxy AI. Beyond the photo editing functions, its real-time translation functionality is surprising. After being deployed on its native applications, the translation could arrive on WhatsApp.

Connecting People

The slogan “connecting people” that Nokia used in the early 90’s takes on a whole new dimension here with Samsung. With the “Live Translate” feature, Samsung supports 13 different languages and offers translation of messages, but also of calls you can make, all in real time. When you make a call, you can activate the translation function: your intermediary receives a notification indicating that the conversation will be translated by artificial intelligence. All you have to do then is speak, wait a few seconds, a synthetic voice takes over and translates your words. After Samsung’s native application, WhatsApp will be the first third-party application to benefit from it. In the same way as on Samsung, your messages and calls would be transferred.

Far from the functionality of a gadget, this application, despite this latency time of a few seconds, can respond to various professional challenges, but also personal. Then artificial intelligence turns into a pocket interpreter. It breaks language barriers and enables you to communicate with colleagues, friends or even family, while maintaining your respective mother tongue. The arrival of WhatsApp currently does not have an official release date. Samsung could form this new partnership this Wednesday, July 10 during the presentation of the new generation Galaxy Fold and Flip.

With this opening to third-party applications, Samsung is ahead of all its competitors and the functionality could encourage consumers to go to the Korean manufacturer. A lead that could hurt its American competitor, Apple and Apple Intelligence. The Cupertino company is currently in a standoff with the European Union to circumvent regulations that force it to open up to competition.
