Il Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultradespite its launch still being several months away, is already at the center of numerous rumors. According to some of these rumors, the smartphone will be equipped with a 50 MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra: What do we know so far?

In a recent leak, tipster Ice Universe revealed that the Galaxy S25 Ultra will feature a 50MP ultra-wide-angle sensor. The sensor will reportedly be 1/2.52-inch in size, with a pixel size of 0.7μm, and will be paired with a wider f/1.9 aperture to capture more light. For comparison, the current Galaxy S24 Ultra features a 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera, with a 1/2.55-inch sensor and an f/2.2 aperture.

A 12MP ultrawide lens falls short of the 33.2MP minimum resolution requirement for 8K video recording. However, with the expected 50MP sensor, the Galaxy S25 Ultra will likely be able to support 8K video recording from both the main and ultrawide cameras. This improvement should also increase video stability thanks to the ultrawide lens’s wider field of view.

The higher 50MP resolution offers a number of benefits, such as more room for EIS stabilization when recording 8K. However, this could come at the cost of a slight narrowing of the field of view. In addition to the aforementioned cameras, the South Korean giant’s new flagship will retain the 50MP periscope telephoto lens with 5x zoom and the 200MP main camera that we’ve already seen on the current flagship, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. The new setup, therefore, could allow users to shoot 8K video from all four rear cameras, with possible support for lens switching while recording clips.
