Launching alongside the standard Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Flip 8, Galaxy Watch 9, and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, the Ultra model starts at $2,099 and aims to resolve long-standing battery and crease concerns. Refining the Foldable Form Factor
Samsung’s latest entry into the foldable market, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, arrives as the company’s most premium book-style device to date. While the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 is a brand-new, wider foldable designed around media consumption and portability, the Ultra retains a more traditional, phone-like silhouette. According to reporting from ZDNET, the device’s narrow folded design—with a 21:9 aspect ratio—is a strength for users who prioritize one-handed ergonomics, such as texting, scrolling social feeds, or navigating maps in a busy city. By contrast, the inner 1.11:1 aspect ratio of the Ultra maintains the familiar, albeit squared, form factor of previous generations.
Durability and display aesthetics were central to this year’s design updates. Samsung introduced a Flex Titanium display structure that utilizes an ultra-thin titanium alloy film beneath the OLED layer, supported by a titanium support plate. Samsung states this film has 20-times the mechanical stiffness of the polymer film used in previous foldables. Reviewers noted this change creates a flatter display, making the central crease practically nonexistent during day-to-day use. While one can feel the crease ever so slightly if applying significant force, the improvement is described as impressive.

To address previous complaints regarding the difficulty of unfolding the device, the new Armor Flex Hinge features a 20% wider opening gap and a subtle lip along the edge. This design provides a more tactile grip for users, a quality-of-life improvement intended to resolve the difficulties users faced when prying open the extremely flat Z Fold 7.
Performance and Battery Upgrades
The Z Fold 8 Ultra attempts to close the performance gap with Samsung’s flagship slab phones. The device is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor, paired with 256GB of base storage and 12GB of RAM—specs identical to the S26 Ultra.

The most significant hardware shift is the inclusion of a 5,000mAh battery—a substantial increase over the 4,400mAh cell found in the Z Fold 7. Samsung confirmed this upgrade is primarily due to a chemistry change to silicon carbon technology. This change supports 45W wired charging and 20W wireless charging, up from 25W and 15W respectively in last year’s model. While the device does not include magnets to keep the chassis as thin as possible, Samsung notes it is “Qi2 ready” when used with compatible magnet-equipped cases. The phone remains thin, measuring 4.1mm when unfolded and 8.9mm when folded, maintaining the 215g weight of its predecessor.

Camera Capabilities and Hardware
The camera system on the Z Fold 8 Ultra has been brought closer to parity with Samsung’s flagship S26 Ultra. While the main and telephoto cameras remain the same 200MP and 10MP sensors used in the previous Z Fold 7, the ultrawide camera has been updated to a 50MP sensor.
