Samsung introduces new lightning-fast SSD storage for games and creative applications

by time news

Samsung Electronics announced today at Gamescom in Cologne the 990 Pro, a high performance NVMe SSD based on PCIe 4.0. Thanks to the speed, the SSD is optimized for the most graphically demanding games and other intensive tasks such as 3D rendering, 4K video editing and data analysis. “With continued innovations in gaming, 4K and 8K technology, and AI-powered applications, consumers’ need for high-performance storage is growing exponentially,” said KyuYoung Lee, vice president of Memory Brand Product Biz Team of Samsung Electronics. “The 990 Pro offers an optimal balance of speed, energy efficiency and reliability, making it the ideal choice for avid gamers and creative professionals who want to work and play without interruption.”

Samsung claims that the 990 Pro series offers the fastest speed currently available using the PCIe 4.0 interface. The SSD offers sequential read and write speeds of up to 7,450 megabytes per second (MB / s) and 6,900 MB / s, respectively, while random read and write speeds reach 1,400K and 1,550K IOPS, respectively. High-performance NVMe SSDs are also useful for taking full advantage of the latest console and gaming technologies. Built on a low-power architecture, Samsung’s next-generation controller improves SSD energy efficiency by up to 50% over the 980 Pro model. In addition, the 990 Pro model features a nickel coating on the controller and a heat diffusion label on the unit. Samsung’s Dynamic Thermal Guard technology also ensures that the unit’s temperature remains within the optimal range. The 990 Pro will be available globally starting in October with a price tag of € 189.99 for the 1TB model and € 349.99 for the 2TB model. A 4TB capacity version will be available starting next year.
