First pinch hit grand slam of the season
Kim Young-woong, the next-generation powerhouse of the professional baseball team Samsung Lions, hit a grand slam in his first at-bat since returning from injury.
Kim Young-woong came in as a pinch hitter in the top of the 6th inning with 2 outs and bases loaded when Samsung was down 1-5 in the 2024 Shinhan Sol Bank KBO League game against SSG Landers held at Incheon SSG Landers Field on the 15th, and hit a game-tying grand slam over the right field fence.
In the top of the 6th, Samsung created a bases-loaded opportunity with two outs thanks to Kim Heon-gon’s hit, Koo Ja-wook’s double, and Kang Min-ho’s hit-by-pitch.
Then, Samsung sent in Kim Young-woong as a pinch hitter. SSG took off starting pitcher Roenis Elias from the mound and brought in Seo Jin-yong.
Kim Young-woong didn’t miss the fourth pitch, a forkball from Seo Jin-yong, when it came right into the middle of the strike zone, and he yanked it over the right field fence.
Kim Young-woong, who was left off the first-team roster on August 29 due to shoulder inflammation, returned to the first-team ahead of today’s match.
After recovering from his injury, Kim Young-woong played in Futures (2nd team) league matches on the 13th and 14th to get used to the game, and was named to the 1st team roster after 17 days.
