Electronics giant Samsung said on Tuesday (May 2) it had banned some of its employees from using generative artificial intelligence tools such as ChatGPT, after noting in an internal document « cas d’utilisation abusive » of this technology.

“We are temporarily prohibiting the use of generative artificial intelligence services for company-owned computers”explains an internal document, arguing that « cas d’utilisation abusive » were reported, without going into detail.

The ban applies to employees of the department of mobile devices and household appliances, said a representative of the South Korean giant. The document further recommends that employees do not upload work-related information to these platforms when logging on outside of company premises.

In recent months, other major companies, including Goldman Sachs, have already banned or restricted the use of generative artificial intelligence platforms.

ChatGPT, designed by California-based startup OpenAI, went live in November and was quickly taken by netizens, impressed with its ability to clearly answer tough questions, write sonnets or produce computer code.
