Samsung has started distributing One UI 6.1.1. The update brings numerous new features and improvements to Galaxy smartphones.
At IFA 2024, Samsung gave the starting signal for the worldwide delivery of the update to One UI 6.1.1. The operating system is based on Android 14 and has been adapted for its own devices. Owners of the Samsung Galaxy S24 and its sister models can be the first to enjoy the new software update, which offers many new AI functions and optimizations.
Particularly noteworthy is the integration of “Galaxy AI”, the company’s own artificial intelligence. This brings various innovative functions to the devices. For example, “Sketch to Image” enables the creation of AI-generated images based on simple sketches that the user makes with their finger or stylus. Another innovation is the “Portrait Studio”, which can convert existing photos into different styles.
The update package is based on Android 14 and is around 2.8 gigabytes in size. It also contains the security patch for September 2024 as well as further system optimizations and improved security features. However, the launch will not take place simultaneously in all countries. Initially, the update is only available in South Korea; in Germany, distribution will start on September 9th.
In addition to the new creative features, the update brings a function for quickly completing written input using AI predictions. Other features of the new version include expanded real-time transcription and translation options.
The portal “Sam Mobile” also reports that a major camera update is expected for the Galaxy S24 Ultra. However, it remains unclear whether this has already been implemented as part of One UI 6.1.1 or will only happen with One UI 7, which is based on Android 15.
