Samsung Electronics intends to significantly increase the volume of purchases of LG WOLED panels for use in its TVs this year. The company plans to purchase from 700 to 800 thousand of such panels, which is a significant increase compared to 10-20 thousand last year, the GizmoChina portal reports, citing Omdia analysts, Day.Az reports citing Gazeta.ru.

LG Display plans to produce about 6 million panels this year, of which up to 4 million will be used in its own TVs, while the rest will be split between other manufacturers, including Sony and Samsung, with the latter buying a significant portion of those panels. Samsung Display, the leader in display manufacturing, plans to make 1.4 million QD-OLED panels this year, of which it will keep 1.1 million and sell the rest to Sony.

Samsung’s strategic focus is on QD-OLED panel production, but it relies on cooperation with LG Display to meet demand for WOLED panels. Samsung is expected to produce about 2 million OLED TVs this year, double last year’s figure.

Analysts predict that total OLED TV sales will reach 6.3 million units this year. Samsung plans to use LG WOLED panels in its B-series and C-series TVs, while the company will continue to use its own QD-OLED panels for premium models.
