Samsung’s new SSD drive promises a significant improvement in battery life without compromising performance

by time news

Samsung has announced a new SSD drive of its own, the PM9C1a. This is a high-performance PCIe 4.0 NVMe drive for user use and certainly for day-to-day use, but Samsung’s main goal was not to break speed records, but to create a particularly resource-efficient drive to save battery.

First for performance. Compared to the previous generation of its SSD drives that are not intended for gamers, Samsung claims a 60 percent improvement in read speed and 80 percent in write speed: 6,000 megabits per second and 5,600 megabits per second, respectively. However, as mentioned, the main emphasis is on energy efficiency, and here Samsung presents a dramatic improvement of up to 70 percent. While the computer or tablet goes into standby mode, the PM9C1a consumes about ten percent less than its predecessors.

All of this should lead to a noticeable improvement in battery time on laptops and tablets that will use the new drive. In addition, the drive should also be more secure thanks to a built-in cryptographic encryption system, which is independent of the operating system and is even able to protect the drive from other hardware components installed in the device. The technology is also supposed to stop hackers trying to tamper with the firmware of the drive.

Samsung will offer the new drive in a variety of storage capacities, from 256 gigabytes, 512 gigabytes to 1 terabyte in lengths of 30, 42 and 80 mm. It is expected to make its way to laptops and tablets soon, although the manufacturer has not yet Ready to declare the models.
